When deciding on a problem to focus on I originally wanted to help dog owners easily find parks, services, and pet friendly stores in their neighbourhood. However, I quickly realized this isn't a product users would use frequently and I wanted to challenge myself to design something that dog owners would regularly use. Instead, I decided to focus on creating a product that would allow users to manage pet care related tasks such as ordering food and booking vet appointments through one single app.

Ovierview

Borks is a mobile app designed to help busy dog owners manage all of their dog's needs through one app. This project was completed as part of BrainStation's UI Design Certificate Course (Mar 2021) and completed a high fidelity prototype by the end of the course.

01 Research

During my research phase,  I conducted a competitive analysis of what other pet care-related apps and websites there are right now. I looked at what features were currently available and what was missing that my users might find useful. I noticed that there currently is no one app that encompasses everything related to pet care. Dog owners have to use a variety of websites and apps to have all of their dog's needs taken care of.

Mood Board

I began to browse for inspiration to create a mood board, looking at many interfaces for pet care apps, noticing what features are included and brainstorming what features are not included that might be useful. Once I had a rough idea of what I would like my interface to look like I began to browse colour palettes. I wanted something fun and playful but not too intense or hard to read.

Sketches

Once I had completed my mood board I began sketching, beginning with my home screen. During this process, my home screen was the screen that went through the most iterations as it needed to show all the important information (ex. upcoming reminders) while making sure everything flowed well visually. Once I was satisfied with the visual design for my home screen I went on to sketch out the rest of the user flow.

Wireframes

After testing my sketches I started to translate them into wireframes on Sketch, using low-fidelity white and grey wireframes to focus on the layout of everything before adding more detail.

UI Design

Using Sketch I created my high fidelity prototype for my web and mobile flows. For some additional finishing touches I added some interaction design to my prototype using Flinto.
